The History Group

Founded in 1994, the Astons History Group meets about four times a year to discuss and record village history. Meetings are usually in members' houses, but also occasionally in "interesting" houses or buildings around the villages. We hold an 'open' meeting in the Village Hall once a year with a speaker or presentation on a particular topic. Anyone is welcome to come to our meetings, and there is no membership or joining fee.
We have accumulated a large archive of village papers and photos which we are in the process of recording electronically. Our photographic archive includes fascinating pictures from the 1880s - 1930s through to the present day, including our Millennium Albums. These can be reproduced on request - as photo or other 'merchandise' items.
We hold regular exhibitions to mark special events in the village - such as the centenary of the purchase of the Recreation Ground in 1897 (1997), the Millennium (2000) and the Village Hall's 40th. anniversary in 2004. The most recent was in May of this year (2009) - to celebrate the opening of our new community pavilion at our recreation ground.

We have published a range of booklets on different aspects of village history – see our web page for more information.
